With Daens (1992), director Stijn Coninx created one of Belgian cinema’s most powerful films. Jan Decleir plays priest Adolf Daens, who fights for workers and children living in harsh conditions in late 19th-century Aalst. Based on Louis Paul Boon’s novel Pieter Daens, the film was a major success and received an Oscar nomination. Now restored in 2K, it remains a timeless plea for social justice and human dignity.
